The Unforgettable Festival takes on a special glamour with the announcement of the participation of José Carreras, one of the world's greatest tenors. With a spectacular career spanning more than five decades, Carreras has won hearts on the world's greatest stages and left his mark on the ages with outstanding performances of operas by Verdi, Puccini and Bellini.
An impressive career
José Carreras was a musical child prodigy, making his debut at just 8 with the famous arias The woman is mobile by Verdi. By the age of 28, Carreras had already amassed 24 roles on prestigious stages in Europe and America.
A key moment in his career was working with Montserrat Caballé, who described him as "the voice of the century". This paved the way to international recognition for the Catalan tenor, who has appeared on stages including New York's Metropolitan Opera, London's Covent Garden and Milan's Scala.
The "Three Tenors" phenomenon
Another defining chapter in José Carreras's artistic life was the formation of the famous trio "The Three Tenors", alongside Plácido Domingo and Luciano Pavarotti. Beginning with their historic 1990 World Cup concert in Rome, the three tenors redefined opera's popularity, attracting millions of spectators and setting impressive sales records.

At the height of his fame, Carreras faced a major challenge: in 1987, he was diagnosed with leukaemia, with minimal chances of survival. After a year of gruelling treatments and unconditional support, including from Plácido Domingo, the tenor overcame the disease and continued his artistic mission.
In his desire to offer hope to those in similar situations, Carreras founded the José Carreras International Leukaemia Foundation, which to date has raised more than €70 million to support patients worldwide.
